Monsanto licences glyphosate-free weedkiller for Austria. Active ingredient: Vinegar

Homeowners in Austria can buy Roundup under the familiar “Roundup” label, but there’s no glyphosate in it. Instead, the active ingredient is listed as vinegar. GM Watch has details in the report at this link.

The product, produced by Scotts under license from Monsanto, looks like a test-market venture in response to glyphosate concerns expressed across many European Union countries.

Belgium’s ag minister plans to ban “non-professional” use of glyphosate.  The French environmental minister is supporting the World Health Organization’s view of glyphosate as a probable cancer agent.  Italy forbids glyphosate applications in public areas such as parks.
